Worship Planning Notes
Often, as worship planners, we can over-plan or under-plan for Sunday services that will primarily involve young adults. The focus of this moment is to help young adults believe that through recession, depression, and other obstacles, young adults can be victorious through Christ Jesus, our Lord. Consider taking a simpler approach this day.
- Seek out three young adults who have experienced unemployment, financial hardship, depression, etc. Allow them space and opportunity to speak within the worship experience, perhaps before the altar call prayer, the offering, or benediction. Ultimately their testimonies should encourage and strengthen the community of worshipers. Again, the focus is that we are victorious through Jesus Christ.
- Create space for a poster ministry to operate during the worship service. Make an appeal for all persons who have been unemployed, depressed, financially challenged, homeless, friendless, hopeless, etc., to participate in making a poster that expresses their sentiments about this juncture in this life. Select a song that is reflective, meditational, and inspirational to accompany the poster presentation. While the song is playing, allow the young adults to present their posters without verbal communication. Consider the following examples and allow creative input from your young adult ministry leaders.
I was unemployed for 24 months and did not know how I was going to eat or pay my bills.
I suffered from depression after being physically abused by my husband of 5 years.
Today, I work as the Vice President of Marketing for XYZ Industries.
I have been happily re-married and depression-free for 5 years. I no longer allow my past to haunt me.
