STEWARDSHIP OF TIME
(VOLUNTEERISM)

MUSIC & WORSHIP RESOURCES

Sunday, July 20, 2008

Tony McNeill, Guest Lectionary Liturgist

Minister of Music & Arts, Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC

Worship Planning Notes
Prior to the worship service all auxiliaries, boards, and groups in the church who are engaged in projects that serve the community and need volunteers should set up tables in a visible area and be prepared to sign up workers. Make sure that special announcements are also placed in the church bulletin. Each group should set goals to attract more volunteers and plan accordingly.

1. Invocation or Litany
GIVE OF YOURSELF
One: The world is in need of an embrace and a hand up.
Many: Give of yourself.
One: Such giving allows the incarnation to come among us again and again.
Many: Give of yourself.
One: You cannot help everyone but you can help someone. Why not do it today.
Many: Give of yourself.
One: Your skills, your compassion, your intellect, and your heart are all needed as much as are your finances.
Many: Give of yourself.
One: God has no hands but our hands, no feet but our feet. Will we let God down? Will we give God excuses? Will we fail to show God our thankfulness for all that God has given us? We cannot fail our brothers and sisters in need.
Many: Give of yourself.
ALL: For if we all give of ourselves, hearts will be uplifted, children will be fed, elders will no longer be alone, the sick will be healed, neighborhoods will be safer, schools will teach again, and the Kingdom will come on earth as it is in heaven.

(May be read by a worship leader or recited by everyone to prepare for giving.)

The Scripture declares that we do not live unto ourselves. What we do and what we neglect to do affect the lives of many others. We are instructed not simply to be concerned with what is important to our lives alone, but we are to be involved in the affairs of those in the faith community. Let us be generous in our sharing with a world filled with diverse needs.
