1. Litany | |
Being Single | |
Leader: | God bless the widowed, divorced, and unmarried in our midst. May your love enfold them and the community of faith affirm them in their singleness. |
People: | Being single is to know the joy and fulfillment of God’s consuming and unconditional love for us. It is full; it is blessed; it is beautiful. |
Leader: | Being single is the ability to enjoy ourselves. It allows for intimacy with God without distraction. |
People: | Being single is the freedom to be alone and not lonely, to be at peace with nature, and to be complete with friends and family. |
Leader: | Being single is the ability to pray in the name of Jesus and to dance freely before him, knowing that he cares not if we sing off-key or dance to a different beat. |
People: | Being single is having the ability to shed tears at night knowing that when we need to be comforted, we will be rocked in the cradle of God’s arms. |
Leader: | Being single is being a proud black man and black woman who respects others who share in his or her life. |
People: | Being single is a shared dinner with friends on Saturday night and communion with the saints on Sunday morning. |
Leader: | Being single is listening to the preached Word and allowing it to validate, encourage, and strengthen. |
People: | Being single is knowing that others before us have run this race and allowing them to encourage us in the midnight hour of our soul. Being single is giving to God freely of our time, talent, and treasure. |
All: | Lord, we thank you for the contributions of single persons to our church and community. Amen. |
