Invocation. Based on Psalm 20.

Lord, we come, praying that you will hear us; that even when we are in harm’s way, you will protect us. Send help from the very gates of heaven. Come to our rescue. Our praise is for you and you alone. For only with you can we be victorious. For this we lift our voices high; we raise our banner of celebration—all in your name. For we know you will hear our prayers. You sit high, but you bend low enough to reach us. You will hear and you will save! Our Lord, strong and mighty! Others trust in their own might and power or the strength and valor of others. But Lord, we trust only in your name, and it is in your name that we bow. Others will reel at life’s circumstances. But we give them all to you. We will stand firmly on your promises. Immerse us in victory deep beneath the cleansing flood. Hear our prayer oh Lord today, as we come giving you all praise and all honor, in these beginning moments of our worship. Amen.
