WORSHIP AND ARTS SUNDAY
(Formerly known as Choir Anniversary Sunday)

MUSIC & WORSHIP RESOURCES

Sunday, September 22, 2013

Leon C. Lewis, Guest Lectionary Liturgist
Producer, songwriter, musician, composer, and arranger

Worship Planning Notes

Worship and Arts Sunday should be a time of worship, celebration, reflection, appreciation, and fellowship. Worship speaks for itself. At the end of the day, everything that we do should be to the glory of God. Use this Sunday as an opportunity to celebrate and highlight various accomplishments of your Worship and Arts ministry throughout the previous 12 months. I encourage you to reflect on the history, legacy, and evolution of your church's Worship and Arts Ministry. Also, find a place during the service to appreciate and acknowledge key leaders, musicians, sign language ministry (if you have one), and various volunteer service groups. Last but not least, consider arranging a time of fellowship that includes all components of your Worship and Arts Ministry.

Worship and Arts Sunday should be captivating, exciting, and motivating. You may want to consider setting the mood prior to the actual day. Use all the communications outlets within your church to create an exciting and informative atmosphere internally. Also, use social media to build interest externally. What the congregation sees and hears as they come into the sanctuary on that day should be taken into consideration as well. I would like to suggest that as persons enter the service the media department plays music that is lively, upbeat, and celebratory. Consider creating a video that acknowledges the occasion and honors leaders within the department. Create banners/signage that acknowledge God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Song selection should focus on unity and fellowship in the body of Christ, the greatness of God, and the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.

May your Worship and Arts department minister under the power, presence, and anointing of the Holy Spirit. And may the praises offered up on that day unify the congregation, draw the unsaved to Christ, and ignite a corporate worship so all will agree that surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.
