Minister of Music, Ark Church in Baltimore, Maryland
Worship Planning Notes
In preparation for your Disability Awareness service:
- Give your Worship and Arts team adequate planning time to include persons with disabilities in all aspects of your worship experience. This will include time needed to make persons with disabilities feel comfortable working with persons who do not have physical disabilities and vice versa. Also give your team time to teach deaf persons how to sign songs and time to aide and/or teach persons with physical disabilities to perform during with various ministries such as your dance or step ministry. Include parents where needed and even groups outside of your congregation if they can help.
- Give emphasis to your service on Facebook and Twitter. Be sure to record the service via DVD.
- Try to use songs and instrumental music that was written and/or recorded by persons with disabilities.
- Place book titles and other resources in your bulletin and in other areas of the church to aide persons in learning more about the differently-abled and materials to assist parents who have children who are differently-abled.
1. Litany, Responsive Reading, Invocation, or Call to Worship
(a) Responsive Reading
Your Reasonable Service
Romans 12:1-5, 9-18, 21 (NKJV)
Solo 1 |
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
|
Everyone |
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
|
Solo 2 |
For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.
|
Everyone |
For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.
|
Solo 1 |
Let love be without hypocrisy,
abhor what is evil,
cling to what is good.
|
Men |
Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another,
|
Solo 2 |
Not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord;
|
Women |
Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.
|
Solo 1 |
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.
|
Everyone |
Be of the same mind toward one another.
Do not set your mind on high things,
But associate with the humble.
Do not be wise in your own opinion.
|
Solo 2 |
Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men.
|
Everyone |
If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. And do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
|
Solo 1 |
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. |

Make me a servant, humble and kind.
Giving to others, not keeping what’s mine.
You, God of heaven, came wrapped as a babe.
You lived in humility and showed me the way.
Make me a servant, Jesus, like you.
Help me show humility in all that I do.
It’s not about living just to please me.
But it’s about giving as I have received.
