The theme that runs throughout this unit is that the power of addiction is not greater than the power of the Lord. So, even if we have fallen under the stronghold of an addiction, we can get up again.

13. Three-part Ceremony of Admission, Revelation, and Release

Purpose

The goal of this ceremony is to help people realize 2 important things: (1) addiction can be about more than just drugs, alcohol, or pornography, and (2) it can be a problem for more than just the addicted person.

d) Explanation of luminol (chemical substance that reveals the presence of blood)
e) Metal trash can or fireproof basin in which addiction slips can be burned
f) Anointing oil

Procedure

The facilitator will oversee this process with the aid of additional persons as desired.

a)	As people enter the sanctuary, give each adult and youth a slip or a 3x5 card on which to identify an addiction issue. As an alternative to distributing preprinted slips, a model slip can be displayed with an audiovisual projector and individuals can then write what applies to them on their blank slip or card. Whether you use printed slips, a projected display, or both, the following scripture should be on it: You shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you (Deuteronomy 3:22).
b)	At some designated point in the service share the following information in the order given: 1) the nature of addiction 2) the power of addiction—including to those other than the user 3) the power of blood in the natural 4) the role of luminol in revealing the presence of blood 5) the power of blood in the supernatural 6) the relationship between Jesus and luminol 7) the relationship among Jesus and luminol and you This information can be shared simply through the spoken word delivered by a compelling speaker, with the aid of prepared PowerPoint slides, or using a live demonstration of someone applying luminol to a stained cloth with blood on it.
c)	Invite people to submit their acknowledged addiction issues under the blood of Christ. Either pass collection plates or baskets so each person can deposit the slips or allow individuals to come to the front or a designated place and put slips into a basket or tray or the burning vessel. While slips are being collected, have singers render a song of testimony such as “All in His Hands” by Milton Biggham.
d)	Commit the surrendered addiction issues to the power of Jesus’ blood using the following steps. 1) Put all the slips into one container on the altar. 2) Anoint them with oil as a prayer warrior asks the people to touch and agree while he or she leads them to repeat words of admission of a problem, release of that problem to God, and acceptance of God’s help in addressing it. 3) Set the surrendered slips on fire and let them burn away as a prayer warrior pleads the blood of Jesus over them, invoking the following: The power of 2 or 3 (Matthew 18:19-20); The battle is not yours but the Lord’s (Deuteronomy 3:22); God does not lose battles (1 John 4:4); and You can rely on and rest in God’s promises (Numbers 23:15).
e)	As individuals return to their seats, have the singers render a song about the blood, such as “Under the Blood,” making sure the ad lib includes not only “my sins” but also: 1) my mistakes 2) my fears 3) my weakness 4) my excuses 5) my problems 6) my addiction 7) my past 8) my future

Follow up.

Have anti-addiction information available to take away. Arrange for representatives from anti-addiction support programs to be available to answer questions after service and provide a point of contact for future assistance. Use this as an opportunity to begin or re-energize Bible-based support groups or buddy systems for addicted persons and for those involved in the lives of addicted persons: Iron sharpens iron; so a man [or woman] sharpens the countenance of his [or her] friend (Proverbs 27:17)
