Worship Planning Notes
Today’s service praises God and honors those who are single. Be sure to advertise this service via the Facebook pages of your members and tweet about it. See today’s cultural resource unit for additional ideas to accompany today’s worship service. Additionally, be sure not to portray singlehood as a state of incompleteness during today’s service at any point.
1. Call to Worship, Centering Prayer, and Litany
Call to Worship
We gather today to worship our Creator and to celebrate life. We celebrate the life God has given us to give selflessly to others, and to spread the message of the Creator’s love to those around us. This we do, solely to give honor and glory to God. Amen.
Centering Prayer
O God, our lives are fearfully and wonderfully made. We are an integral part of your marvelous works. This we know because you have chosen to redeem us and to dwell within our hearts. We are your people, your temples. We are your children. Today, we celebrate each breath you’ve given us, for each breath holds the potential for us to fulfill our life’s assignment. In each breath is an opportunity to share the message of your peace, your joy, and your unending love. And though we often move briskly through our lives with endless lists of chores, social dates, and work assignments, we pledge to keep your work, your purpose for our living, your gospel of peace at the top of our personal commitments. You have preeminent priority. You are our ultimate reason for living. We thank you for being our ultimate fulfillment. In your loving name, we humbly pray. AMEN.
Litany
Leader: |
With family embrace, we recognize those among us who are single.
|
People: |
We affirm that those who are single were created in the image of God and are complete as the Apostle Paul was complete and the businesswoman Lydia was complete.
|
Leader: |
Encountering and channeling the love of God is the supreme experience one can have, in this earthly life and beyond.
|
People: |
Oh, how grateful we are for the assurance of God’s love, and the confidence it gives us to fully live!
|
Leader:: |
Joyfully, we serve God—through paths of clarity and paths of doubt, through times with company and times of solitude—with full confidence that our paths and our times are ordered by the Lord.
|
People: |
Our lives are directed, our footsteps are purposed, and our destinations are secured: all for the glory of the one who created us.
|
All: |
We trust God’s ways, knowing that the faithfulness of God prevails and that complete fulfillment can only be found in a relationship with the Creator. |
