Worship Planning Notes
For Homecoming this year, consider having members dressed in clothing from eras of long ago. Have various members speak throughout the service and provide church history for the era for which they are clothed. For instance, members may dress in attire from the 1850s, 1920s, 1950s, 1970s, and today.
If your church is a new church, consider hosting a picnic or church dinner that encompasses southern cuisine and evokes images of old homecoming celebrations.
1. Call to Worship
Homecoming
Leader: |
We gather now as did our foreparents to give you praise for your amazing grace that has brought us thus far along the way. |
Persons seated to the left Side
of the church: |
We thank you for those who brought us into the
faith, for those who were our examples: mothers, fathers, deacons, teachers, and pastors. |
Persons seated to the right or middle of the church: |
We have returned to this landmark and where we have been lax and unconcerned we also announce today that we have come to return to you and the work that you have given us to do. |
Leader: |
We ask that this day you would bind together broken families, bring peace to troubled communities and make each of us instruments of the change we want to see. |
Persons seated to the left Side
of the church: |
We thank you for family and friends who have returned that we might collectively worship you and affirm again that we are your people and the sheep of your pasture. |
Persons seated to the right or middle of the church: |
Forever bless this church which has stood as a landmark of faith for so many. Let her light continue to shine until you come again. |
Leader: |
Now we pause to pay homage to all of those who are not with us today because they now reside in Paradise. Thank you for their lives. We now stand on their shoulders. |
All: |
Throughout this service and celebration our ultimate aim is to give you glory. You are worthy of our highest praise. Amen and Amen.
